Does the Perseus deliver on its promise of comfort and speed?
Yes! I have been extremely satisfied with the comfort of the Perseus. Paired with the proper wedge, this holster is as comfortable as any Kydex AIWB I’ve worn to date.
Comfort is one of those things that can be subjective, but Dark Star Gear clearly put a lot of thought into eliminating unnecessary bulk and sharp edges, which makes a difference for all-day wear. I’ve carried this holster for days at a time—driving, standing, walking, and training—and it just disappears. No hot spots, no unnecessary poking or digging into the body.
As for speed, the Perseus is absolutely a contender for one of the fastest AIWB holsters I’ve used. I’ve always felt the KSG Lexington gave me the best presentation speed with my Glock 45, but after running the Perseus extensively, I’m not so sure it isn’t a tick faster. Either way, both the Perseus and the KSG offer more than enough speed.
How does its fitment compare to other top-tier AIWB holsters?
The fitment of the Perseus is exactly what I expect from Dark Star Gear, near perfect.
- The gun clicks into place upon holstering, providing that crisp, confidence-inspiring sound that tells you it’s seated correctly.
- Retention is firm but not excessive, allowing for a clean, consistent draw every time.
- No unnecessary material or bulk—this holster is precisely molded for a secure fit without adding anything that doesn’t need to be there.
In terms of overall execution, Dark Star Gear is right up there with top-tier manufacturers like JM Custom, Tier 1, Tenicor, and KSG. No rough edges, no shortcuts—just solid engineering and execution.
Attachment Options, Wedges, and Pads
Like other premium Kydex holsters, the Perseus supports multiple customization options to fit individual preferences. A variety of attachment options, wedges, and pads allow users to tailor the holster to their carry needs.
Attachment Options:
One of the things I appreciate about the Perseus is the flexibility in mounting options. You can set it up exactly how you want, depending on your belt system and preferences. Options include:
- Pull the Dot Loops – Traditional and secure.
- Dark Star’s Standard Tuckable Clip – Works well but not my personal choice.
- Discreet Carry Concepts Mod 4 Clips – My preferred option. These grab onto the belt like a vise and provide incredible stability.
*One note, I have not tried the popular DCC Monoblock, as I like them, but they allow for too much movement for my liking.
Wedges and Pads:
Holster geometry matters, and Dark Star Gear understands the importance of proper holster-to-body interface. You can fine-tune the Perseus by selecting any of the following at checkout:
- Soft or flat teardrop pad – Adds cushion and helps tilt the grip into the body for better concealment.
- Flat square pad – Works similarly but provides a different contact surface.
The Perseus comes with a mod wing by default, but Dark Star Gear also offers a fixed retention kit for those who prefer a different setup.
Customization & Versatility
How useful are the multiple belt attachment options?
The ability to use a variety of belt attachments is very useful. The variety of mounting options allows users to fine-tune the fit, ride height, and cant to their preference.
- If you prefer deeper concealment, you can adjust it lower.
- If you need a more aggressive grip angle, adjustments make it possible.
- If you’re running different belt systems, you can swap between attachments easily.
This level of modularity is crucial for an AIWB holster because body types, carry positions, and preferences vary so much.
Does the ability to adjust ride height, cant, and retention give it an edge over competitors?
Not necessarily, as most high-end AIWB holsters have these features. However, Dark Star Gear expanded its mounting options compared to the Orion model, making it more versatile than its predecessor. More options = a better fit for more people.
Weapon Compatibility & Fitment
The Perseus supports a wide variety of handguns at this time, including:
- Glock 17, 19, 48, 43X, and more
- Sig P320 and P365XL
- HK P30 Series
- Beretta Cheetah & 92 Series
Real-World Performance
My experience with drawing, comfort, and concealment.
- Drawing: Fast, repeatable, and intuitive. No extra drag or interference.
- Comfort: One of the most comfortable Kydex AIWB holsters I’ve used.
- Concealment: Excellent—easily hides a full-size gun with the right setup.
This holster performs exactly as a premium holster should. No gimmicks—just solid execution and a well-thought-out design.
I’ve been using the Perseus daily for nearly two months, both for everyday carry and training, and it has earned the role of my new EDC holster. It’s a premium holster that performs like one.
Who is this holster for?
The Perseus works well for both AIWB and IWB carry.
Does it require any aftermarket additions (e.g., wedge, pad)?
Not unless you prefer a specific wedge or pad. Dark Star Gear offers solid options, but wedge/pad preference is highly personal. I personally chose to use a different wedge, but that’s purely subjective.
Final Thoughts
The Dark Star Gear Perseus delivers on its promises of comfort, speed, and quality. With excellent fitment, a variety of setup options, and a well-thought-out design, it’s an outstanding choice for AIWB carry. Whether you’re new to appendix carry or a seasoned AIWB user, the Perseus is absolutely worth considering.
Verdict: Highly Recommended
